Must grow list?

Are there tomatoes that you feel you must grow every year? I started growing tomatoes from seed a few years ago and still want to keep trying as many new varieties as possible with my limited garden space. My neighbor always plants Green Zebra and Power's Heirloom. She says they are the best for reliability, taste and beautiful appearance.

Last year was my first trying Green Zebra. Wishing it was better than it was.

I am trying alot of new varieties (for me) this year. The one I must have is pink brandywine. The flavor just takes me to another place. I am hoping this year I'll have new favorites.

These are what I'll be trying:

    Black Krim
    Mr. Stripey
    Penny's Early Girl
    Milan Mountain
    Omar Lebanese
    White Currant
    Yellow Stuffer
    Azoycka yellow Russian
    Chudo Rinka
    Chico III - paste tomato
    Pennsylvania Great White
    Marglobe Red
    Isis Candy

I'm wishing I could try Costoluto Genovese....

I can't imagine a time when I wouldn't grow Black Cherry. It's a definite favorite around here. And, after growing it for the first time last year, I think that I will probably always grow White Currant. We were overloaded with tiny, sweet tomatoes from the two monster plants we had. Black Plum was a great producer with good flavor, too.

I grow a handful of new to me varieties each year.
But if I had to identify ones that I grow each year it would be:
Cherokee Purple or Indian Stripe I switched over to Indian Stripe a few years ago, but if I had a huge failure in the house or something I would be just as happy with Cherokee Purple.
Sun Gold a lovely, sweet, cherry that since I met it, has had a regular place in my garden. Its a real kid pleaser nice snacking cherry tom.
Russian 117 a really good tasting, good producer of big oxhearts.
Opalka a paste that has everything you could want in a tom.
Cherokee Green best green Ive ever had.
Brads Black Heart I cant believe more people dont gush about this one. Its an awesome producer (for a heart), it has gorgeous color, its large and oh, tastes great. Im a fan of a dense tomato (I think is typical of a heart) and this one fits the bill. I cant live without it now and it seems to do better every year I grow it.

I grew a few last year that are being added to the line up: White Queen, Earls Faux, red and black boar, pork chop, Large Barred Boar Im going to add Golden Cherokee to this line up too I think but this of course will bump others that I grew like Berkeley Tie Dye, OSU Blue (I think thats the name?) that I liked but werent crazy about

After last year, I have roughly 5 must grows:

1.) Neve's Azorean Red: Best all-around tomato I've ever grown. Great taste, great size, big beautiful plants. Did well in 100 degree heat with no rain and continued to produce well until frost.
2.) Brandywine Sudduths: Best tasting pink by my tastebuds. Despite what others see, my plants are fairly productive and don't have much in the way of blossom drop / disease / pest issues.
3.) Marianna's Peace: My wife's new favorite. I think they're nice, a little less sweet than other pinks, has a subtle bite to them that makes them great for a bruschetta or as a slicer.
4.) Rutgers: A good general purpose tomato, good old fashioned taste. It's been a good producer, year after year, regardless of how terrible the seasons have been.
5.) Red Brandywine: Great taste, strong plants, keep well, produce well and similar to Rutgers are fitting to a wide variety of uses.

I'm hoping to add a 6th (or maybe more) to the list this year. I finally got what I believe (hope and pray) are true Opalka seeds. I'm looking for a good meaty sauce-type (in shape and meatiness) with good enough flavor that it could be used fresh in salads or salsa - based on what I've read this should fit the bill.

I agree with the Red Brandywine. Those guys threw me for loops last year. Smokey and fairly, completely beautiful.

You will LOVE Chudo Rinka, what a great and yum cropper that is!

Trudi, sounds tantalizing. What is a good seed source? I've not been able to locate one.

Sungold, Black Cherry, Pink Ping Pong, Green Zebra, Golden Queen (USDA), Chianti Rose, NAR, Paul Robeson. These are my must grows for every year....so far!

I always grow a few Brandywines, and my new keeper is Big Sungold Select, which I will grow every year unless I find a better tasting/earlier OP cherry tomato (doubtful).
I had always planted one Stupice for early tomatoes, but Big Sungold Select was just as early, and the tomatoes were way better.

I was the seed source on Chudo Rinka, I had gotten seeds from the USDA and had grown it out and distributed its seeds, but I'm out of stock--so if you want any, you'll have to scan people's trade lists to get the seeds. It's worth the effort--I thought it was a wonderful cropper.

    Brandywine sudduth
    Black krim
    Sungold F1

and probably also black cherry, indian stripe, aunt gertie's gold. Those should at least be runners up...
