I have a white and pink striped one blooming, a bird of paradise is blooming. Barb was about to throw out a pineapple plant, it is starting to bloom and have a new pineapple, that changed her mind. Took cuttings from the burgmansia today and they were still full of blooms. They will bite the dust tonight though.

Not any more. We got a pretty hard frost last night and everything bit the dust.

I'm surprised. My coleus were very sad this morning, but even the impatiens are fine here. Caladiums and geraniums too. I took the very most tender stuff in, but it looks like we'll still have some time before our first real freeze (at least in the middle of town).

Same here. Impatiens, Elephant ears, Coleus all looking good. I did bring the really tender stuff in. Getting hard to find a place for that Jasmine where my cats can't get it. One of them is fascinated with it. It will end up on the floor at least twice during the winter.
Should I dig the elephant ears up now or wait for them to die off? I usually don't save them from year to year but I'd like to this year.

I'm letting the caladiums and dormancy-fond colocasias get good and cold this year, then I'll stow em in the basement. In previous years I've tried to keep em growing through the winter with very little success. This year, I'm gonna let em sleep and see what happens.

It all crashed and burned last night here. The water in the Big Orange Power T birdbath was still frozen solid 1 1/2" thick at 10:00 this morning.

I'm impressed! This morning I still have the impatiens looking fine. I pulled up the coleus yesterday, so it's gone. The caladiums are wilting, but not mush. The geraniums are fine (they're actually hardy to about zone 8, so that's not a surprise). I've even still got my Clerodendrum ugandense outside (I forgot it), and it's still blooming!

I love warm microclimates. ;-)
