It sounds a little like Solanum carolinense (Horse Nettle), but S. carolinense isn't really a vine. Look at some pics of this plant and see if that's it. If not, a picture might help us identify it.

Could be a Smilax. There are several prickery species in your area. Common names are catbrier, greenbrier, brier, and various other brier-ish names, all alluding to those thorns which can do some serious damage. Do a Google Image search for Smilax and see what you find. Various species are usually told apart by leaf shape.

Well, it is horse nettle. Which is not good since it is posionous. Guess I will start digging out all I can find now before it statrs to grow again.
