I have a large, potted Tibouchina that I want to overwinter more successfully than I did last year. It lived in an unheated garage with no grow lights (but with windows) and occasional light watering. Obviously, this is not optimal treatment, and the plant let me know by leafing out later and not producing blooms until July. It did, however, grow taller and bloomed profusely until late November when it was brought in. Next year,I would like to see it leaf out sooner. Do I put it under a grow light or take it out earlier in the spring? What's the lowest temperature to bring it outside? The nusery where I purchased it suggested wrapping it and leaving it outside next to the house. I tried that a few years ago and lost the plant because winters in Oregon, although mild, can throw some wicked cold weather at our elevation. Also, can the plant be pruned in the winter?
