Sunlight After Germination

I have some tomato seeds that I'm sprouting in the dark on top of a freezer. As soon as I see them start to sprout, sometimes before the cotyledons emerge, I've been putting them in direct full day sunlight. They're turning faded yellow, and not turning green. Of course it's only been 2 days thus far. I was hoping that if I could grow the seedlings in full sun, there would be no need for hardening off later on.

So my question is: am I killing the seedlings with this method?

Does the radiation from the sunlight penetrate the soil before the cotyledons emerge to ready them for direct sunlight?

Thanks,

Daniel
