One string of soakers should be fine, especially since you have put them on a splitter. You may have to run the water a little longer, but that is fine.

I have found that when you don't put them on a splitter, it can create problems in terms of flooding some areas, and having other areas at the end of the line not getting enough water.

Of course, the alternative is to just run each section separately.

One good way to test the effectiveness of your watering regimen is to use a metal rod as a sort of probe. If you've accomplished a good, deep watering of an area**, you should be able to fairly easily plunge that metal rod at least a foot or so into the ground.

A further suggestion would be to determine how long it takes to deeply soak your tomato garden, then remember that time for future reference. A timer can be helpful with this.

** Deep infrequent waterings are best in order to encourage the roots to grow deep -- thick mulching can help with that in terms of limiting surface evaporation.

You were correct..after a while of watering, that spike went way in..good.
I'm currently using about 3-4 inches of hardwood mulch (pecan and mesquite) that was given to me for free...(still truck loads left) Thanks again.
