Hi from Bingster

Hi all,

Hope all are well. It's another tomato growing year and have my plants all in as of 4 April. A much better spring this year in the panhandle of Florida and expect fruit set to be much better this year than last. Have missed talking to my friends on the site since last summer but am again excited to watch your progress and talk from time to time. Good luck to everyone this season!!

    Wecome back!

You're one of many who start posting when the tomato action is in full swing while some of us stick it out through the winter posting stuff relating to WHEN and about the tomato action to be might be in full swing. LOL

Good to see a 'mater old-timer again!

Do your tomatoes shade the deck or the other side of the support? Now that's what I call a mater-lover's heaven. Settle down with a book, pull the chair up close to a plant, and pluck off one to eat anytime!

Good to see you back. I enjoy seeing your set up and updates as the season goes on.

    Hi Bingster!!

Looks like you have a nice "production line" going there again this season. Did you experiment this year with any changes (Lime addition, fertilizer brand, other "A/B" comparisons)?

I planted mine out on March 30 and have fruitset already on a few. This year, I also planted 10 CornTainers as I had pretty good results last season with the 3 I planted. Corn would probably do well in your location as well.

    Have a great season!!

Missed ya Bingster. Thought maybe you started growing other things and not maters. I always look forward to your posts. Can't wait.

    Let me guess...

    You have 80% Big Beef!

I see the guard dog is working his shift.

I'm transplanting tommorow, so I will not be far behind.

    Any flowers yet?

And wait a minute, do I see a drip irrigation line this year? We are stepping up in the world.

Bingster, nice to see you back. Always was impressed with your container production but Raybo has you beat this year. He's watching his Tainer forest grow while sipping on a cold one in his Jacuzzi. Ami

    Hey, no "competition" here....

Bingster was my inspiration for spending upwards of $2000 now to build 30 EarthTainers.... yeah Bing, my Wife just "loves" you.....

Thanks all for remembering me and taking the time to say "hello"

Hi Carolyn...You've got me pegged! Just like my fishing...only go when it's 70 degrees and the sun is shining...and I don't get up early either! Always enjoy your posts...I learn a lot reading them and wish I knew more about what I was doing! Hope you're feeling much better this year...springtime always helps!

Hi Anney...I'm lucky in that the sun is directly overhead the deck when planting season comes so there is no shade...they get a good 9 hours a day. Hope all the rain we got this spring has fixed the water problems up in GA.

Hey Raybo...I'm always fascinated with your posts. I expected you to be in business with your "Tainers" by now. The engineer in you sure comes through in your setups. Talk about taking a simple idea and improving it. The "Mona Lisa" of container gardening! Really liked your corntainer last year...looked like they did very well. Just tell the Missus it's only money, and it keeps you off the street!!

Hi Timmy...Didn't do seedlings this year as last year's production was so disappointing. Looked everywhere for Big Beef and only found a few so only 12 of my 56 plants are Big Beef. If I could have found them cheaper, I would have done all Big Beef (I know Carolyn is rolling her eyes!!) The irrigation system was a necessity as I took a job over in Panama City, FL and I'm gone all week and only spend the weekend at home. Have a simple hose bib timer, 1/2" poly pipe and the appropriate fittings. It's working very well so far. Still have my two Yorky attack dogs (biggest A..holes you ever saw...My Mom says they take after their master!!) Yes, I do have blossoms and plants are vigorous and healthy so far.

Hi Ami...how's Europe? Hope you're well and still gardening. You're absolutely right...Raybo is the master when it comes to these containers. I gave up trying to keep up with him a long time ago!

Hi Larrick...As Carolyn says, guess I'm just a fairweather gardener. Hibernate through the winter till it's time to plant again in the spring. Not growing anything else, just maters. To tell you the absolute truth, when the crop starts to really produce, I eat nothing but tomatoes for about 3 weeks....then believe it or not, I get so sick of them I can't eat any more! However, there's just something about big, healthy plants just full of big, ripe tomatoes that I get a big kick out of. I love to watch them grow and also really enjoy just giving them away to my neighbors who always seem to appreciate it.

Hi bcskye...thanks for taking the time to say "hello". This IS a fun site, isn't it! Everyone is always so helpful and there are some really smart tomato folks you learn a lot from. Am looking forward to the new season, as I get older, seems like there are fewer and fewer things to look forward to...but I always love tomato season! Hope you have a great year.

    cheers to all,

    Bing

    Bingster,

Contact me next year and I'll plant you a 48ct. tray of Big Beef and ship it Fed-Ex overnight to you when you are ready to plant. This is for free, not trying to sell or advertise anything.

I planted 120 Big Beef today and 6 Geronimo in containers with drippers. I'll get some pics later.

    Hey Bingster,

Good to see you posting again. My tomato support I copied from you is still holding strong after 2 years and the plants are already 2 feet tall.

I see the tomato dog is again on the job guarding the tomato plants.

Timmy...one of these days I'm going to find a way to come see your operation. I know I would learn a bunch! A very generous offer on the BB but I couldn't take them for free...we'll talk some more and maybe work something out for next year....thanks for the offer, much appreciated!! Send some PICs when you get some time.

Mr Potaohead...thanks for the "hello". Glad your support system is working out. Mine still does a good job but when I ever get time I'd like to improve upon it with something more like a box design where I wouldn't have to do so much pruning. I'm still planting two plants per container and although that works well, it sure gets to be a jungle. Maybe next year only one plant in each. That's "little Man"...my best buddy and guard dog. Nobody sneaks up on me or my tomatoes!! Have a great season, and keep us posted.

    cheers

    Bing
