I've found you can get a few years out of some fringed types. I've had Blue Heron and that real popular burgandy one, that for the life of me I can't remember the name right now,lol, come back for me. Other's that you want, I have not had as good of luck with.
I have thought about trying to buy some that were older varieties sometimes they have better staying power. Some varieties were bred for cut flowers, not garden staying power, so it is had to know which will have a better chance of coming back. Many of the old ones that are still around were for the garden.
In case you don't know,to get the best chance of return, plant them deep in amended soil in full sun that doesn't get extra watering during the summer. Also, break off the flower as it starts to die, 30% of a tulip's energy can go to seed formation that could of went back into the bulb. And of course, let the foliage die back before removing. And after all that, they still might not come back very well, lol.

I've gotten fairly good return on my favorite viridiflora, 'Spring Green.' The second and third year blooms are smaller, and they don't increase much, but they don't vanish after one year either. I just add a handful of new bulbs to the patch every other year or so, to keep them going.

I have an assortment of tulips - the Darwins and Triumphs return pretty well; the greigii have been mixed for me, and some of the "florist" ones vanish after a year. I've had the same patch of 'Sweetheart' for almost 7 years, and only added bulbs once (year before last). Last year I planted some parrot tulips, so I don't know yet if they'll return after this year, but I put them in a sheltered spot to give them a chance.
