lilacs early

20 years ago

OK, I know most of my lilacs traditionally are in bloom around the 20th, my sister-in-law's birthday, because the lilacs look and smell great if we have a party outside at our house.

This year, I cut a small branch off my earliest lilac TODAY, May 4, and put it in a vase. It's blooming. Not sure of its variety, resembles Romance, it's a single with a rather lavender tint to it. In any event, I don't ever recall having lilacs this early.

Anyone else's lilacs blooming away ahead of schedule?
