NY/PA GARDENS-plse advise!

we're thinking of doing our own ny/pa garden tour/trip beginning 7/25. the itinerary i have in mind is :

Home(Boston area) to Stonecrop to PepsiCo. to Wave Hill to Brooklyn Botanical Gardens( to Phila Museum of Art(maybe)) to Chanticleer to the Barnes Foundation( to FallingWater/Pittsburgh.) and home. Of these gardens, we have only been to wave hill, so we have an idea of time needed there. have you been to any of the others and might you have any advice as to what

kind of time we should allot,ideally, to them ?we're pretty much interested in all plant material except roses(there has to be something, doesn't there!?) but our particular interests are foliage , woody plant material and wonderful design. Aside from Winterthur/Longwood Gardens- do any other very special gardens pop up in your mind that i haven't mentioned?thank you in advance.

I just visited Chanticleer this past Sunday - it is fabulous! I was with my parents, brother, and sister-in-law. We spent 3 hours there - we could have spent more time, but by 1:30pm, we were ready for lunch. We all wished we had brought a picnic so we could've stayed longer.

Innisfree in Millbrook, NY is the obvious omission. Kykuit in Tarrytown is absolutely amazing, but I don't know the current state of ticket getting. I went on a group tour when they first opened to the public and those reservations were made several months in advance. There are several different tours. We saw the house and the home grounds, but not the sculpture park.

The BBG is fairly small, so it can be done in a day. Falling Water is basically a house tour. I missed the Stonecrop trip, but my friends seemed able to do it in an afternoon.

If you are going to Philadelphia, you should definitely go to Longwood Gardens. It is west of the city on Rte.1. It was the home of Pierre S. duPont and has many acres under glass and also outdoors. It is one of the premier gardens in the country. Just across Rte. 1 is the Brandywine River Museum, home of paintings by Andrew Wyeth. Nearby also, below the state line in Delaware is Winterthur Museum and Gardens, also a beautiful garden but perhaps at its best in the spring. Can you tell I'm from Delaware??

If you will be in NYC don't miss the New York Botanical Garden....I could spend all day there!
