The only one I know anything about is the trumpet vine. Mine has pods already too, tho it's still has many more blooms to go before it's done for the season. And judging by the number of humming birds it's doing a good job feeding them.
With trumpet vine pruning the thing is the same as declaring war it comes back with a vengance. Pods on it are ready after they turn brown.

I just saw this post. My jacks almost always get red berries and wild trillium develup red seeds,,,don't know if my trillium do this by tis time of year Ithey are surrounded by other plants so I don't see much of them.

My baptisia does get those big seed pods. They start out pale and then they turn black, or almost black at some point. I read in my perennial book that you can leave them or some of them for winter interest, or take them off. Same with Siberian iris. I think removing them strengthens the plant (?) by sending more energy to the roots. I have been thinking about whacking back the plant itself as it is getting very bushy. Unfortunately I wasn't even here when it bloomed in late June.

The book is The Well Tended Perennial Garden by Tracy Disabato Aust. I love it. She is in Ohio and the book has a lot of the same plants I have. BTW, my Siberian iris have the most seeds ever this year. In general it has been a great bloom year, probably due to all the rain LAST year...and we have been watering a lot.

Good question about the trillium, and I have no idea. Maybe ask on other forums too?
