Good question ... I put one in this year, my friend said it's marginally hardy ... I plan on mulching it well and wrapping it in burlap.

They are around. Why is another question. In Philadelphia they didn't usually bother to leaf out until June. Here, they look dead until almost July.

Why? Because they are very useful herbally! I have the impression they are marginally hardy here as well (I'm in zone 5, in the hills where often the apple blossoms get frosted).

Betty if you have hummers they will love you and your mimosa. In the Philly area they are not permitted because they reseed so prolifically, I received this info from a friend who wanted to plant one at her home in Merion Station and wasn't able to. I am growing a dwarf plant in that is similar to mimosa for my hummers one that I can bring inside for the winter

Thanks Penny for the info on hummers loving mimosa. Another reason to give them a try. I grew Lion's Ear this year and the hummers went bonkers for it!

How far up in N.Y. state are you???
My sisters are in Goshen and Washingtonville and in both of their neighborhoods they were doing very well,when i was there last year.

I'm in Schoharie County, in the hills. It's zone 5. Most of what I have read says mimosa are zone 6. However, even though we get late spring frosts up here, I have a few other herbs that are zone 6 that live. Of course, some of my zone 5 plants don't survive the winter! I will have to look for a protected spot for it.

I tried Lion's tail this year from seed but had no luck. I may just try it again since your hummers loved it.
