I really don't think the weather had much to do with the height this spring.

Bulbs damaged by disease, cuts, or even thrips; and/or old bulbs that hadn't been given enough time to mature last summer; and/or they are planted on a rock and thus can't establish a good root system; and/or they will keep growing during the season [I've seen scilla start short and 6 weeks later be trebled in height]; and/or you have a variety different from that advertised...

Okay, give the bulbs another couple weeks, and if they aren't what you expected, contact Brent & Beckys. Those are good folks and should be able to help you. Take photos, with a ruler beside the stem to show what's there. A picture really can be worth a thousand words of explanation :)

Hummmm. I hadn't thought about any of those things you mentioned. Gardening with bulbs is new to me though I've gardened for years. My daffodils are blooming well. Some of them have the tips of their leaves nipped by the cold weather that hit after the warm Dec/Jan.

I planted the scillas well and mixed in Espoma's Bulb Tone. Come to think of it, I remember now that a few of the bulbs were too dry to plant and I threw them out. That had me a little angry; threw out about six in two packages.

I also remember thinking that some of the other scillas weren't as firm or as healthy as my other bulbs I was planting. I went to a local garden store and noticed they sold the same brand of scillas as B & B sent me. They were a brand from Holland. (Can't they grow them in the good ole U.S. of A?!!)

The dwarf Iris bulbs I planted came up nicely. I have to say that I feel a little more optomistic after reading your reply. It's surprising to read that the scilla may still grow some more this spring. One thing about gardening, you're always learning.
