I'm not sure if you are using the right terms. You probably won't find "plugs"; normally, plug trays contain rather large amounts of tiny plants. They come with app. 128 cells to 512. These plants are then transplanted into something larger which I think is what you are looking for. Most places sell vegetables in 4 and 6 cell "cups" which can easily be gotten at Wal-Mart or Lowe's depending on what you are looking at. Flowers are different--they're packaged a lot of times depending on the size of the plant. We sell them in anywhere from 6 cells to one in a gallon pot.

As for the heirloom tomatoes, anything goes. Around Roanoke, we're heard of them going for ~$5/plant. We sold them in the past for $1.50 for 2 LARGE plants in a 6" pot.

If you want to experiment, the tomatoes are easily grown and small packs of 25-30 seeds don't cost much. I think we have around 25 varieties here this year in 600+ pots. Not sure what we'll charge this time but it'll be no more than $2/pot.
