Haven't seen any locally, but I'd check with Smithfield Gardens. Also, there are a couple of master gardener sales today - one at Bluebird Gap farm in Hampton, and another at the York County Learning garden. Sometimes odd things turn up there. I would have sent you to the Living Museum native plant sale, but I think that ended last week - you might call and see if they have any left. Depends on what species you're after, too.

I grow Asclepias curassavica, a tropical species that usually dies during the winter (it has wintered over once or twice), but blooms a lot longer than the native, perennial species, and is a lot showier, with scarlet and yellow blooms. It's dead easy from seed, and I save them every year; would have been happy to send you some, but I planted the last of them yesterday. They're spectacular in late summer with coleus and salvias, and the monarch butterfly caterpillars come and devour them in August - I always plant extras for that purpose, picking the larvae off the ones in the front yard and transferring them to those in the back. Seeds are cheap and easy to get on the web - Park's and Thompson and Morgan usually carry them, and sometimes you'll see them in the seed racks at places like McDonalds and Andersons. I wouldn't bother with growing the perennials from seed for this year; they take a couple of years to bloom, and may need cold treatment to germinate well.

Hopefully I'll be able to find something soon. I took out the phonebook and literally called every nursery in the area with no luck. I might try the Norfolk Botanical Garden sale this weekend!

Interesting thread. I never knew anyone purposely grew milkweed. They were always sort of a weed with the ability to attract Monarchs. The real prize here though is bubba's blog. Hank
