Fall garden ... It's getting there ...

Some of your may remember when I posted some pictures in late winter of my 'ugly garden'. It was right after I had done a major overhaul (well to me it was major) of where some large rose containers with fresh potting soil were placed.

Well, finally--the look I wanted is not there quite yet, but it's getting there ...

{{gwi:239498}}

There are a few pots awaiting roses to come. Sport casts an approving eye ;-) and David forgot to paste on his fig leaf again so don't look at him!

Prairie Sunrise, one of my favorite Buck roses ...

I like the way the Mexican firebush in the back ground picked up the color of the rose ...

Mrs. R. M. Finch is one of my favorite polyanthas ...

The brug that I almost gave away before being inspired by Carrie's photos ...

The Emerald fern that Jim ID'd is blooming! It looks like little stars scattered through the fronds ...

I caught the Epi bloom a little earlier this morning and was able to partake of the wonderful fragrance ...

A little plaque was added to the 'art gallery' former pigeon loft in memory of the fan tailed pigeons that used to live there. I was surprised to see Max reflected in the mirror. At least it wasn't me!!! ...

Come on guys ... I'd love to see how your gardens are coming along with cooler weather :-)

Looking oh so good there, Roselee, and I am so glad you kept Dr. Seuss...........doesn't he "stink" up the whole back yard??? Love the epi and the roses.

Hope this is not a double post. The site lost my first one.

The garden is looking so good in this fall climate. Prairie Sunrise is gorgeous.

Is Max a cat? I think so, but his legs look so long. His image just fits that frame.

Carrie and Soxxxx, thanks for looking and commenting!

Didn't noticed a lot of fragrance on the Brug. Maybe there is more at night. I'll check. I'm only guessing it's Dr. Seuss. How could I tell for sure?

Max is a dawg, a Terrier/Basenji mix, but he doesn't mind being mistaken for a cat. He likes cats.

Prairie Sunrise's colors change with the season. It's usually more peachy, but I love whatever the shades it shows.

You cannot tell for sure short of DNA, and it is not worth that ........... I just grow them because I love them. Both Dr. Seuss and Charles Grimaldi have serrated leaves and strong fragrance........especially at night and early in the morning.

I love your garden. It's got enough interest, color and plants to be very restful and colorful.

I love your garden Roselee! So many beautiful blooms and sweet pets too!

Question about that vibrant purple bloom in picture two on the far left. What is that? I love the color!

I haven't seen blooms on my asparagus ferns in years, they are so delicate and beautiful! Love the epi too!

    The roses are beautiful!

Thanks for looking everybody. I like to take pictures and who else do I have to show them to, but you all?

Carrie, I went out last night to sniff the Brug and indeed it is very fragrant. The flowers have now turned a deep golden yellow.

Also noticed while I was out there with a flashlight that the leaves on the Pentapete drop down as if to hug the stem as Jim mentioned when he was here.

PJ, the purple plant is a Bougainvillea, my ninth one. I got it late last year. I'd been looking for a purple one for some time and Lowes had them. For me they provide the easiest color possible all season long.

You didn't ask, but maybe someone wonders what it takes to grow them. For winter I tie them up with cord any old way I can and put them in the overwintering house. Some stems break, but that's okay. They lose most of their leaves and that's okay too. I've never had one die. Some of them are so old and the stems so thick Patty said they look like bonsais.

In the spring I trim them back by a third to a half and they come right back and are blooming in no time. They don't take much water during winter, but I try to not let them dry out completely.

I meant Pam instead of PJ in answering the question about the purple plant.

PJ and PK rhyme ... LOL.

Roselee your Oct. flush is coming along beautifully! The roses are poppin'!My fall bloomers have started. I took a single bloom from brug 'Eternity' into the house late Fri. night, and it perfumed the whole house within an hour.

Thanks Jim. Now that's an idea -- bringing a brug blossom in the house! I often do that with a sprig of night blooming jasmine.

I thought that it might be a bougainvillaea! Beautiful! I've been wanting a gold one, but really don't have decent overwintering space.

Pam, the garage will do. When tied up they don't take up that much room. Just bring it out a few times a winter so it doesn't give up hope of ever seeing the sun again :-)
