the redworm or Eisenia fetida is generally the best for containers, but about anything you can easily get will do

you won't be able to fill a cubic yard pit with the right material all at once and not have it begin hot bacterial decomposition, so I wouldn't worry about how many worms, they can live in very dense groups if the food is there, but temperature and moisture levels have to be right, start with what's handy and a 6" layer of bedding and as you add the waste, the worms will multiply, if you've got it right

I don't know what the metric system is like anymore, since High School I never use it. I use inches, feet and gallons intead of litres and centameters, but from the other Bills post understand a cubic yard. If you bin is aprx 3 1/2 feet by 40 inches you could get four pounds of worms to start with. I started with just one pound in one bin and 100 worms in another bin. They were big fishing worms that was labeled extra large red worms and they are redworms and big, maybe Tiger redworms? But like Bill said EF redworms are the fastest eaters and will processes the most volume for you. I am no expert but I think one pound of worms will eat 1/4 lb of food every other day or three, if they are kept at 70' degrees. So four pounds should eat a pound every other day?
I don't think there is a special worm count unless you got too many and didn't have enough food for them. Most people will make another bin once one bin gets too many worms in it anyway. I am just telling you what I would do in your case. I don't know if I helped or not? Good luck Bill C
