It likely had a different name in Bosnian, Serbian or Croatian before translation to English. Maybe "Raj" (Bosnian).

But I can't find any listing for it under either name. Tatiana's Tomato Base is always a good place to start your research.

Then again 'paradise' is a common term used for tomatoes ie: "apple of paradise", "paradise love apples", etc.

I doubt that any Bosnians would have grown it b'c it was only recently named.

Please let me explain.

The name of the variety is Vjerino Paradajiz Sjeme. and many folks translated the middle word so they called it paradise and not tomato, as it should have been translated.

Actually the translation is Vera's Tomato Seeds.

I was given the seeds by a friend whose mother inlaw lived in Bosnia and it was her mother inlaw who named it b'c I asked Leslie, my seed source, if she would do that so neither Leslie or myself had to name a previously unnamed variety.

its'a lovely pink heart with very good taste. And I SSE listed it in 2003 and have been offering seeds for it for a few years in a seed offer I do elsewhere but my seeds are so old now I wouldn't send them to anyone.

So it would not be known in Bosnia with this name b'c Leslie's MIL named it only when she sent the seeds to Leslie, who gave it to me.

Paradajiz means tomato, not Paradise although there are many of us when eating a nice fresh fruit of a variety often think we might be transporting ourselves to paradise, but that would be tomato paradise. (smile)

So I got a crash course in Bosnian culture today. Apparently Paradajz (no "I" as my friend spells it , keep in mind bosnia is a very fractured country ) Means all tomatoes, as in they dont really have a name for lets say a big beef or sungold. big, small red- pink -gold its all "Paradajz". Descriptive people they are not.

My mind couldnt grasp the concept of all tomatoes having one name, took me an hour of quizzing them. (lot in broken english some from a son who speaks perfect english)

I guess its like walking into a bar and asking for a beer and you get a beer.

So now the bosnian group nick name me Mr.paradise (rofl)
