processing castings

I find that the worm castings from my bin are hard to incorporate into the soil mix that I use for transplanting seedlings. I was thinking about drying it out a bit and using a small food processor to process it into a finer consistency. DH thinks that I am nuts.

Anyone ever tried this? Any other suggestions for mixing it in? The transplanting pots are small and just layering the castings on the top won't work as well as mixing it evenly through the soil mix would.

AM...I had that problem, too. What worked for me, by accident, was when I harvested the worm compost from the bin I placed it in a 5 gallon bucket and set it in the garage. Every now and then I'd check through it for newly hatched worms, or worms I'd missed before. Then I just forgot about it.

Now, after sitting in the garage for the past 4 months or so, I have the most beautiful worm compost I've ever had. It is still moist, but I can sift it through one of those plastic "pooper scoopers" people use to sift cat litter boxes. (I bought the pooper scooper just for the worm compost and it works like a charm).
