Nevermind

I was thinking the same thing this week. I noticed alot of babies everywhere-inside bins and outside. Long cold winter?lol

At one point I may have mentioned only seeing eggs in the early spring and then many identically sized baby worms (which slowly grew) and then no eggs or babies at all the rest of the year. I may not have red wigglers but instead a longer, thiner, less adorable type of worm. Like yours they are kept in the cellar. I hope to begin seeing eggs again soon. Since the bloom last spring I have seen no eggs or babies. It also seemed to take until late fall to see the thicker, lighter, mating band on the worms. They were all preteens for a long time. Previous to now other than in my own bins I have not read of missing eggs followed by lots of eggs. I have read of eggs and then at times many more eggs. I should call one the bins the nunnery and the other the monastery.

There is absolutely a season for babies. It is right now for me. Every early spring I have the best hatch I will have all year.

because you mentioned your temps I'm guessing you heard that worms reproduce best between 70-80 degrees. To that I say it is mostly hype. My worm beds are 42 degrees now and last spring, and yet this is the time I have a huge explosion of babies each year.
