Stiped Roma/Roman have a tallish, wispy appearance, with narrow leaves that look fine compared to other varieties. Last season, mine reached 5 ft high by about 3 ft. wide in zone 5. Fruit was the largest Roma IÂve ever grown. Very meaty and firm. DidnÂt start any this season and am wondering if IÂll regret it. CanÂt grow them all!

Average sized roma-type fruit on indeterminate plant 7-8 feet tall and 3 feet wide or more depending on if you prune or not. Good production, pretty fruit, good flavor and meaty - good for sauce and canning but we weren't all that impressed with the fresh eating taste. We like Opalka better.

Is this the same as Speckled Roman? I grew one of those last year and liked the flavor, but I didn't get many fruits....fungus problems got some of my tomatoes, and that was one.

I think the two are similar if not the same variety--it just has two names.

These are superb for fresh eating and production. I don't remember them being particularly wispy plants (like Uncle Steve's Italian Plum) but that's not unusual with some pastes.

Overall, they're excellent and I think you will enjoy them very much.

I've grown this tomato at least 3 times.

It's a gorgeous yellow, orange and red striped oblong shape. The flesh is a deep red color and for a sauce tomato, it's actually very good fresh. The plants are intead very wispy.

But I've decided to stop growing them. I find they are not very productive, suffer terribly from blossom end rot and are consistently the first plants in my garden to turn yellow, wilt and die.

Beautiful fruit, but I don't have enough space to waste on such a finicky plant.
