After reading this, I feel suddenly irresponsible. I do not freeze seeds yet. I wonder how long frozen seeds could be viable?

Certainly something to consider, but seems the international seed vault programs such as the one mentioned below have the worst-case disasters covered better than I ever could. Figure if we even survived anything bad enough to wipe out the local seed supply, our freezer and it's contents would likely have been lost or spoiled in the event.

Yes, I do !!!

I *always* keep my seeds in the fridge. I get several years of use out of them. But yes, I gather that freezing can work, but only for seeds with low moisture content. These are seeds that are "dessication-tolerant", as in, they don't mind being completely dried out. Most vegetable seeds are like that. But I believe that they should be dried carefully, with silica gel, if you want to freeze them. May not be good enough just to set them out on the window sill for a few weeks. I believe experiments have shown that freezing seeds doesn't preserve them a lot longer than refrigerating them do. Also keep in mind that freeze-thaw cycles aren't good for seeds, so don't use the freezer for a bag of seeds you want to take out every year.

I do like daninthedirt. I had heard somewhere not to freeze some seeds, so I just don't freeze any. I keep two years worth in the fridge though, and every year plant half of each, so I always have seeds I know are viable in case I have a bad year one year.
