I wish someone answered this - I am having the same problem trying to identify my grapevines and thorny vines... they aren't berries, I know that. Also, we have a wicked fast spreading ground weed with leaves the size of the grape leaves. No idea what they are either.

Could you post another pic when it starts to leaf out? It could be a rose or a type of raspberry.

With thorns that size and shape, I'd say you have a rose bush, especially with the smooth texture of the stem surface. Blackberries have similar size and shape but not the color separation from the stem color IME and usually some ribs instead of a smoothly round stem. Raspberries have much finer, almost hair-like thorns.

Looks like a Rubus of some description. Pictures of leaves woukdhelp plus the whole plant. For future reference it is best to start your own thread if you have a new question, rather than resurrecting one that is many years old.

This is a fungus I think. It was only on a few I've seen several places. I can see it moving to the adjacent vine. These are those bb sized grapes that I only see ripened when the birds are fed well. I've seen this disease on rose bushes. So everybody when u trim back your bushes here soon if you were clearing brush at some point wash out all tools with disinfectant
