I would think that you run the risk of aquiring maggots and excessive smell. I have no doubt that they would eat fish though. Kind of ironic?

well, the reason i was wondering, is because I live on the lake, and fish alot. When I clean the fish, I can occasionally throw some of the leftover in there. I doubt it would make maggots if I burry it a bit. I am pretty sure that it would stink though. I just wouldn't uncover it for a bit. Any other comments would be appreciated.

It depends on how many worms you have, what amount of fish you provide and the worms' appetite. The main reason most people are advised against using meats and dairy is because most people are passive composters. By the way, when they refer to meats they mean all meats - poultry, beef, pork and fish.

I flay my fish and put the heads, guts, bones and all in my bins and beds. My worms make short work of it. Only after a few days it is striped to the bone and scales. After 1 month it is all gone..

The maggots are excelent composters, they are only unslightly.

If your bins are outside the critters will eat your fish stuff and your worms.

I'd think that if you go slow and don't put in any more fish that your worm population can handle at a time, and critters can't get into your bin, and you're willing to risk being knocked over by the smell if you dig back into that patch a little early - it should be fine :)

I'm currently giddy (well, mildly giddy anyway :) at the complete disappearance of a (cooked) trout spine I put into my worm bin three weeks or so ago.
I happened to transfer everything to a different bin this weekend, and there was no sign of it.*

*That corner of the plastic bin did smell slightly worse after being washed than the rest of the bin did -
but it's kind of a fine point of difference :)
