I am having a hard time choosing a vine (or climbing type plant) for my patio and hoping some of you have suggestions.

This area is facing South in full sun (can be hot and intense in the Summer). The plants are going in a patio area where I left a square foot opening through the masonry patio into the native soil. The soil is not great, mostly heavy clay. They will grow up against large stucco pillars with heavy wood trellising on top with an iron railing and deck above that. This is our main outdoor living space where we spend a lot of time socializing and eating.

The style of the home is similar to old world Tuscan or Spanish.

I would like as many suggestions as possible that might make a good fit for these conditions.
