hi -saw no one had answered this-----I now live in montana but used to live in the willamette valley between salem and ptld. I had hops there and have them here also---the upside is they break ground early spring--they grow fast--will clinb anything AND the hops smell wonderful!
the downside is they are unsightly in winter cuz of the dried vines and need to be cut down every winter--it's kind of a sticky plant but not hurtful--even for a child---

I don't have room to grow hops. My garden is too small. They grow them commercially here and they get huge so I'm not even going to try. Need more room for Clematis....
