While cleaning out my rat's cage last night, I had a thought. I use shredded newspaper as bedding so the resulting waste after cleaning is newspaper well soaked with urine, seed hulls, peanut shells, tissues, cardboard tissue boxes, toilet paper rolls, spilled food, and bits of vegetables plus little rat presents of course. It's enough to completely fill a 30 gallon storage tote (he has a huge cage).

I'd like to have one bin upstairs in the room where I keep him for faster worm breeding (due to higher temperatures). Would this waste exclusively be healthy enough to encourage the worms to breed? I'd like to avoid adding kitchen waste since I can't have even a hint of flies in anything upstairs.
