Yes, worms would help the pile along....I would suggest buying a pound instead of buying fishing worms...Red Wigglers is the ones you want....That can get expensive....Also, nitrogen is a good compost pile activator....Your local livestock feed store should have things like Bloodmeal, cottonseed meal, soybean meal, and alfalfa meal...All these will be good N sources....Dwight

Im an avid fisherman, aquarist, and vermi-composter.

I personally raise E. Hortensis. They do well for composting, great for my fish and turtles, and havent really noticed a difference when using them for fishing.

I also have compost bins outside. The number of nightcrawlers in that immediate area is pretty high. I cant dig a shovelful of dirt without getting 10-15 big worms.

The final answer is yes. Adding more worms will help to speed it up. The variety is really up to you.

I might warn you to give consideration for the woodashes...If you put too many in the pile, it might not be a suitable enviroment for worms...Woodashes can be "caustic" if to much is put in the pile....But if the pile has been working(heating up), I would say it would be safe....Dwight
