What kind of exposure does the wall have - north, south - sunny or shaded?

Clematis is always pretty and readily available if conditions are right for it...

The wall faces SW, so it gets a fairly good amount of sun. Not quite full sun, but still a high amount. I'd prefer something that does not need to be brought in during the winter. My grandmother used to have some beautiful climbing roses, does anyone have experience with those?

A cold hardy passiflora like caerulea or incarnata might be nice but they do have a bad habit of sending out runners. This is P. incarnata Alba but the purple/white combo is more easily found.
