Vermicomposting

Yet another experiment

Last year I eked out my bag of potting soil by throwing in some screened compost and wetting it all down. This year, when I used it to start my seeds, I found a couple of the biggest, fattest earthworms ever, and a bag full of really beautiful soil! Very interesting...

So I left them in there, added some more screened compost and water, went out and found a few more worms and threw them in, and am now waiting to see what happens.

This appeals very much to my cheap & lazy instincts.

curiosity is peeking here. I saw a porch garden done similer by cutting a bag of potting soil and planting in it and sounds like a good start for a portable worm bed too

Well, I just went back and pawed through the bag of soil - didn't notice any worms, nor any particular sign of their activity. So I can't really say this is working, just that it seemed to work once!

The worms probably died. Leave it open to the air.
