Now just how do you see these cocoons among all the shredded paper etc you use for bedding? I've turned over a bit of the bedding with a stick etc but have can not find a single one. I imagine i'd have to pull the bedding out a piece at a time to see any.

We think that it is best to get the worms and let them make the cocoons. As long as the worms are happy, you'll see cocoons soon. At first they look like amber colored BBs. They get darker as they get closer to hatching.

I've purchased cocoons from Blueridge Vermiculture and have been pleased with their prices as well as the quality of their products.

I bought both European and Red Wigglers on the advice of a commercial vermiculture operation near our home.

I got cocoons from Blueridge Vermiculture also. I too was very pleased with them and their prices. If you will call them before ordering and ask if they can give you a better price on cocoons, they just might surprise you! I know this from experience!!! ;>)

Hi, Stevsie. Is there a reason you're looking for compost worm cocoons/eggs specifically rather than live worms? Most people buy live worms so they can start composting immediately, and let the worms reproduce over time. If you start with only cocoons, you should be prepared to wait a couple of months before the worms are able to process a significant amount of scraps per day.

I'm actually surprised there are places which sell the cocoons -- it must be really labor intensive to collect them!
