I have had the 3 bin worm factory in operation for about 8 weeks (only using 2 bins now). I have fed sparingly and I'm using shredded paper, and making sure to avoid cofee grounds (added one filter full initially), no citrus, no onion, etc. The worms seem to be doing ok (started w/ 2000 red wigglers)Probably only a couple hundred like to ccupy the top bin. Preference is in the bottom bin or in the liquid collection tray.

I will often find a moderate sized mucousy clump of worms (all alive) and I'm wondering if this is normal or if I have a problem. Lots of times they seem to like to migrate to the bottom liquid collection tray as well. They don't seem to break down the waste as quickly as I would have expected (I know they feed on the microorganisms that break down the food). Some of the food products are (broccoli stems, lettuce stems, etc) are still there from 8 weeks ago.
