They do like full sun but mine are thriving and blooming well in part shade. They are on the undesirable invasive list in many states. They are vigorous, fountain shaped shrubs, about 8 feet tall. Mine keep their foliage, which sometimes takes on yellow-green in Winter. Their fragrant flowers, in such an odd season, is their only claim to fame,in my mind. With all that,I am glad I planted them.

Brandyray, I have both lonicera fragrantissima and purpussi. Both are in full sun. My grandmother grew hers in dappled light under trees and hers did fine for 50 years. This is one plant of my youth that I love for its fragrance at a time of the year when nothing much else is blooming. My grandmother only knew it as breath of spring!

Note that I said they were bushes. Mine have been topping out at about 8 feet tall. My purpusii is beginning to put out new plants all around the base and spread.

Thanks for the warning, bogturtle. I will have to mulch around it. That it is a large bush instead of a vine means I will have to give some more thought as to where I plant it. I wanted to have it near the front door so I could enjoy it in the winter, but space in the front is very limited. Brandy

The plant can sucker quite easily if a branch touches the ground and is kept moist. I have been successful in keeping mine no more than 4 feet tall by pruning.
