Trumpet Vine

I bought Trumpet Creeper Balboa Sunset yesterday. I then came home and found many negative posts about this vine. I have a trellis that every year I plant an annual vine on. I change it yearly. My question is: what if I treat the trumpet vine as an annual? I will keep on top of seed pods, trim frequently, and then pull the whole thing out in the fall. Will that prevent it from spreading along the ground?

Depends entirely on how well the roots have settled and how far they've spread. It's root shoots that cause the bulk of the problem with this plant.

If you want to treat as annual, my suggestion would be to keep it in container (confined) and then sink the container in the ground. But I'm not sure I'd expect much flowering if growing only as an annual. As with other perennial vines, it takes 3-5 years for the vine to really establish and take off.
