they're part of the decomposer community and will be around decomposing organic materials and wet areas - if you have them indoors they may find the bin, if you don't have them indoors, they won't be attracted, tho' you may bring them in if you use bedding materials gathered outdoors - if they do show up in the bin they do no damage

I read that centipedes can/will(?) kill the worms. Is this incorrect?

I've been killing all the centipedes I find.

BTW, I've also read that centipedes can deliver a hefty sting. I've never been stung so I don't know this from experience, but it's another reason that I kill them when I find them in the bin.
