Anytime. Tell your wife she doesn't need to worry about root burn. I start seedlings in pure vermicompost.

I've never had any trouble adding them anytime. Have also taken castings straight from the bin and planted stuff in them right away.

"Worms Eat My Garbage" (book) says worm castings don't heat up like other manures.

Now that I read this, noticed the seeds in my composts are germinating (papaya, mango, durian, tomatoes, avocado -- you name it) and they are growing fast.

So now I can say, vermicasts doesn't cause root burns.
