He was using an OSCR.
There is a whole club of us now with "No Flow Throughs".
I'm testing some things that seem to be working.
So I'm wondering what changes he will be making.

I get a small amount of dry castings falling from the bottom of my FT's. I found my harvesting rods to really do the trick. My problem was I was starting to "harvest' faster than the worms were digesting the material so I only got a small ratio of castings to compost. (about 1/8). I am now slowing down and will wait for at least 10 days between harvesting until I start seeing a much higher proportion of castings.

I got the idea after a few posts here from Sbryce who hinted how he was setting up his FT. Then I saw the Youtube video from 'gourmetstrawberries' who uses an adapted OSCR. He uses a series of metal rods with a hand crank. Like Sbryce, I used pvc with screws.

Maybe Mark will be modifying his Flow Through bars in a similar way. Even with top harvesting there still seems to be mega benefit from the air of having nearly bottomless bins. I wonder if we need less air blockage on the sides. Maybe we should be vermicomposting in fishing nets.

pjames. So apparently it is possible to have dryer castings on the bottom to fall out along with wetter material processing on top.

It seems like too wet and too dry are very easy to accomplish. Just perfect less easy. The worms seem to move around to wetter or airer or better food conditions as they desire. Those corn cobs I rarely use seem valuable because they stay wet and the worms love them when everything else is too dry.

My DIY FT flows-thru way too much. To my surprise, it really does get dry on the bottom. (Actually the whole bin gets a lot dryer than I expected.) Problem is the stuff dropping out isn't finished castings yet by a long shot, but my FT is still pretty new. I'm focusing on trying to keep the whole bin wetter now.
