Papaya IS an acceptable food, mp0123. I have 2 papaya trees in my back garden (the fruits are slightly bigger than the Hawaian Solo) and they fruit continuously. Sometimes the fruits turn mushy before the family eats them. So, I poke a hole in the fruit and place it whole in the bin. I do not mash it as experience shows that the bin warms up considerably when I do. It takes some time to rot and completely disappear, but the worms have not suffered.
