Yup. I think a lot of people freeze surplus food for later use. I cutup and froze my halloween pumkin last year and fed it a little at a time over the next few months.

Also freezing helps breakdown the scraps and controls fruit flies.

I freeze all my stuff. Freezing and thawing helps break it down, and veggie stuff is easy to break into smaller pieces when frozen. When it gets real hot, I put the stuff in my outdoor bins frozen to cool the bin down.

Oh yay! I guess that's also a smart way to store stuff even once you have the bin so it doesn't sit around and stink. Of course, I've already got about 10 mushy bananas in the freezer, but I think those will go to banana bread. :-)

I freeze almost everything--coffee grounds, even liquid coffee, tea bags, eggshells, peelings, apple cores, etc. It breaks down faster, and I don't have to go to the bin every day. It takes quite a while to thaw completely though, but that's ok. Just know you need to set it out early in the day you want to feed.

I bet you'll be surprised at how much you have that the worms will like.

I'm pretty dedicated to my worm bins, but if I have to choose between banana bread and the worms, the worms will have to be satisfied with just the peels.

LOL Well, I started my bag of worm food today and it is delighting me to no end. It's already half full with some old spring mix lettuce and a mango that were both about a month past their primes. Eww. I'm not sure I can stand to wait until after August to start my bin though. But it will be worth it, I know. Thanks for the advice, everybody. I'm sure I'll be back in a few months with more questions.
