any worm eats decomposing organic material, once it's been well worked over by bacteria and wet/soft enuff - straight outta the box they'll have no interest at all

Thanks again you are a big help, i figured i would have to soak the oats for them,,, and ewwwwwwwww just checked the crisper have some decaying cilantro in there, and lettuce to looks like i can make worm food without trying. wonder if i set them out in a bowl if they will decay faster and get some micros going for the bins

Anything will decay faster if shredded or put in a blender first.Lettuce will start in nothing flat.

If you don't have a blender- chop it up fine.

You dont have to let it decay before putting it in the bin, thats what the microherd does. Just bury it under some bedding. You dont have to put it in the blender either, but the smaller the pieces the quicker it composts.

no you don't have "to let it decay before putting it in the bin", but it does have to be decaying [microbially active] before it's of interest to the worms - so it's best to charge a new bin with material well before worms are added to it, not after
