Nothing is as impressive as reaching into a container and pulling out a handful of worms.

Vermicompost is much more than (or maybe not even) fertilizer. It is a soil conditioner that gives structure and air space. It helps hold water.

Please display bedding as shredded egg carton or coffee trays and corrugated cardboard. I think people are throwing those things away and feeding the worms white office paper. The best, highest use for white office paper is recycling while egg cartons are I think shorter less useful fibers for recycling and better used in a bin. Plus they are tastier. :-) I could be wrong about a few things.

Let them know that the mistake most people make is that once their bin is made they add food and add food and add food. Then in exactly one month the bin is a scary thing. Bedding is just as important to add. A supply should be right next to the bin to add as needed or even more than as needed.

Are you going to give participants some worms? Even if you have to purchase 5 pounds and take a pound each and give away 1/4 pound starts for shoe box size bins. Have everybody bring a shoe box and have bedding for them to tear up and rain water. You will have the talk of the year. Especially if they forget to leave the light on the first night.
