Hi all, and thanks for the great resourse. This forum has been my worm bible since I started a while ago.

My question is this. My Worm Factory is on the second tray, and seems OK, except there are quite a few worms getting down into the bottom liquid collection area. I have a upturned cup in there covered with hession to give them a "ladder" to get back up (hey, just a thought! lol), but they seem to accumulate down there. There are still good numbers of worm up the top feeding as usual. Is there a problem, or is this relatively normal behaviour?

I usually manage the system to have little or no free liquid collecting in the bottom by adding dry or moist bedding.

As an experiment, I added a bucket of dry leaves to the bottom collection tray (there was a millimeter odd of free liquid down there, so I thought "Soak it up with dry stuff") and left it alone for 2 weeks (there was still food on the top layer). After 2 weeks, ALL the leaves were well worked over and looked like good stuff, so I transferred this material to the top tray, and repeated (Bucket of leaves etc). Same result as before. Next, I stopped the bottom feeding. Next 2 weeks, more worms in bottom (none dead, all health and happy).

All this time, there were still many worm up the top feeding as usual.

My conclusion, feed dry material in the bottom, helps soak up any excess moisture, and combo food scraps / bedding paper in the top, and near double the amount of vermi - product from the one small farm.
