Hi all!

Really wanting to start a worm farm in the new place we're moving into (a real garden at last!) and the yard has fair bit of 'rubbish' (read: useful junk) that I'd like to recycle if I can. The old pallets and carpet is going to make a couple of compost bins and the dressers and bookcases will go in the shed as storage space.

I also have an old 44 gallon drum in the yard- looks like it used to be for fires. I was thinking to cut the bottom off it and sit it on the soil, so the wormies could retreat down if it got too hot, and to cover the top with hessian. I'd then just start filling with bedding, soil, food etc till half full then add the worms. When its full I'd just separate out the castings and start again.

Does this sound about right? Is using a drum like this ok? I don't want to poison them or anything- maybe I could line it with plastic? It would be kept in shade and out of the rain.

Any ideas, thoughts, etc would be a big help.
