sherry you didnt say if you started with bed run or breeders. if bed run it will take at least a month or two longer to reach breeding age. if breeders i would change the 4 bins into two. that would put you about 2 pounds in each bin more or less. bed run worms are about 425-525 per pound and bait worms are about 250-375. breeders are a few less. the closer they are the faster they breed. if your bed temp is under 80 to 85 you are ok on the temp. just dont be in a hurry they will breed if the bed conditions are right. sounds like you are on the right track.

Make sure that you give them Calcium. Give them crushed egg shells so that they can have the Ca. to build the cocoons.

Well we got two orders for two different sources we asked the first man for breeders so they would be large and ready to sell (2lbs) he then sold us bait size when we got them home and opened them up most of them looked like immature worms, so ordered from a second farm, this time bait size 1000 of them there where a few larger worms in the second batch. so i went thou the worms and yes sorted as many of the largest ones out some of them were already breeding so i thought i was on the right track, maybe i haven't given them enough egg shell. I have chopped all the egg shells up real fine in a mini chopper. and will go sprinkle some more on top of the bins.

Egg shells do not have anything to do with worms making cocoons. Egg shells help prevent the ph of the bin becoming acidic. Be careful what you read in these forums.

If you leave the worms alone, feed them now and then, and keep the correct moisture in the bin you will find that they breed all by themselves.

Thanks everyone for all the help. and Marshall thanks i did add about a tablespoon of crushed egg shells to the bins. and yes i keep a close watch on the moisture.
