Am I overfeeding?

I just started a bin with 1 pound of worms two weeks ago. My understanding is that the worm will eat 1-2 pounds of kitchen scraps every 2-3 days. I have been put in about that much (limiting the scraps at this point to just vegetable scaps and burying the food under an inch or two of the bedding. But the food does not seem to disappearing as I expected. I'm begining to wonder if that is too much food.

If the worms are actually eating the bacteria that comes from the decomposing scraps and not the scraps themselves, shouldn't I expect the scraps to be present for a longer period of time, because I don't think corn husks will decompose in 3 days.

Bottom line, when they say the worms will "eat" 1-2 pounds of scraps every 2-3 days, do they mean that I can expect the food to be no longer, or 80% less, visable within a week? Perhaps I was expected a bit too much from the worms.
