I have a golden nugget hops that is growing up my arch and is thriving & looks beautiful. It has grown up one side and halfway down the other side of the arch-but no further. It's my fault (silly me) the plant is not going to grow away from the sun. I need to plant another one at the bottom of the arch to grow up and cover the half naked side.

I had a hard time finding my hops running around to different nurseries as I live in a very rural area. I was thinking instead of finding another one-why can't I propogate this one. I pinned (with paperclip) the end of a stem where a leaf is... into a small pot, about 6 weeks ago and have kept it watered (still attached to the mother plant). The leaves are dead now and it doesn't seem to have rooted. What have I done wrong?
