Passion Fruit in North Texas

Has anyone had any luck growing Passion Fruit in North Texas (Dallas)? If so, what variety and where did you get it? Is it too late for me to start it this year?

I have Passiflora Foetida. It is just starting to return. Not aggressive like the others I have. It makes a fruit full of seeds. My squirrels love it...likely why I have only a few plants appearing.

Do you have any that fruit? I am most interested in the actual fruit. Also, did you plant from seed? Where did you find it? Thanks!

I originally planted Foetida from fruit. I suggest starting with a plant. I planted in July and they sprouted in my greenhouse in Feb! Yes, I kept the tray that long.

Where are you? I hope to have some popping up in the next month. So far only 3

I'm in Dallas. I've looked in Northhaven for a plant, but haven't found any. Do I need to look online? I am a novice gardner, and infact, this is really the first year, I've grown more than just basil. So I'm not really sure what I am doing really, so any help would be great!

I found something with bigger fruit than Foetida from Almost Eden. I've shopped online with them before and really like them. There may be other choices. Often the local nurseries just don't carry what I am interested in.

I also have couple of plants but not flowering yet. Would like to know what I can do get it to flower so I also can enjoy some passion fruit before winter. Thank you!

Some varieties bloom earlier than others. My 'blue crown' passi has been blooming for awhile and is just now is forming fruits. Just keep it going; water it, maybe give it a little fertilizer and some sun. I've never known passion vines to not bloom and form fruits. Let us know when yours does.

I came across this thread. I live in McKinney. I have been growing passion fruit since last year. Last year I got several fruit. Gut this year I am getting a out 75 fruit. Basically, it grows like crazy. I got a cutting from my sister to get started, however I was able to grow plants from last year's fruit. This plan also produced fruit. I would be happy to give away fruit or cuttings (spring is when they come up). Reach out to me at mikealvarez_sub@zeravla.net)

Mine sprout out all over my yard and take over all the plants here in prosper. But I've never had success with fruit. One year there were a couple fruit but they did not ripen before winter so they were lost

I pick my fruit when the skin gets a little soft. Then I let it ripen indoors (they get softer and start to wrinkle). They will taste good freshly picked but seem to get sweeter if you ripen them. I found if I leave then until they drop, there is a little hole, like some beetle or bug invades them.

I do consistently water them either daily or every other day. I read that the pollen is heavy and bees are the best for pollination. If you don't have bees, you can manually pollinate them. We have lots of bees in our back yard. We have flowering plants (veggies and flowers) almost from spring time until fall to attract pollinators. The pasion flowers require pollination for them to bear fruit.
