A friend gave me a piece of a vine with a three pronged leaf and a blue/purple trumpet flower. Can you help ID this for me? Also any info on this plant will be welcome.

Thanks Joan

happygirl-gardener Z9-CA - The description you provide could be alot of different plants...

Regarding Morning Glories it could be:
Ipomoea hederacea
Ipomoea indica
Ipomoea nil
Ipomoea purpurea var.diversifolia

Take a look at the link to Ipomoea indica below and see if that looks like the plant you have...

TTY,...

Can you post a photograph of it? In your zone, there are dozens of vines that your description would fit. There are several in the thunbergia genus that might fit and would give you a start. But as I said, a photo would help lots. Ron's thought of I. indica is an excellent guess too. Blue Dawn Flower is extremely popular in CA.
Good luck,
