You won't get enough compost to make much of a difference. If you use the castings on specific plants, they will thrive, but you won't have enough to condition your soil. Where I live is essentially a desert with imported water to make it green. I've found two things improve soils the most: keep a heavy layer of mulch and pocket feed compost.

I keep at least 2 inches of mulch (I use mostly purchased bark) over all my soil that isn't covered by grass. You can use many other things as well, including newspaper and rocks. The trick is to keep the soil covered, preferably with organic material. I also dig holes a foot or two deep and bury such slow decaying material as tough leaves, more bark and anything else that doesn't go into the bins. This creates "feeding stations" for native worms, providing them with a place to meet and greet, hopefully leading to more baby worms. I also keep the whole place well watered, but that may not be a problem where you live. Dry soil is dead soil and certainly devoid of worms.

Don't expect miracles right away, but if you can cover your ground for 4 or 5 years, it will transform itself. Good luck.
