I imagine by the trellis you mean the part that I've encircled in your photo?

There are many options. However, in my experience no maintenance plants don't exist :-)

There are many vines you can grow. You can grow roses (depending where you are), group 3 clematis (there are some very big ones) & even grapes. If you are interested ask on the respective forums for advice.

I would shy away from the japanese and chinese wisterias, due to the size, and the pruning in order to induce them to flower. However, if you receive more that 6 hours of sun, you can plant the native Wisteria macrostachya 'Blue Moon'.

You can grow annual vines such as Morning glories. Though you won't be able to deadhead, so, I'm not sure if that a good idea.

This is a few that come to mind. But there are many, many more....
